As a child, Andrew Helm was raised by mystics in the orient and, when he was much older, invented a Corti-conscience machine that caused the whole world to consider its actions. With the machine operating, Helm uses an astral projection to view the results around the world. As the League battles various villains, all of them are overcome with the realisation that what they are doing is wrong; Helm returns to his body too late and finds that he cannot re-enter. The Corti-conscience runs haywire and soon the world is plunged into anarchy. The League addresses many of the symptoms before finding the island where Helm and the machine are based and battle against creatures brought about by the machine. They overcome them and turn off the machine, unknowingly leaving the astral form of Helm to wander forever.
