Carl Bork, small time thug and former world traveler, realizes that he has somehow gained invulnerability. He uses this ability to take over the Gotham underworld, even breaking out of prison by eventually wearing through the wall with an invulnerable fist. Realizing that he can't win a physical confrontation, Batman recruits the Flash to retrace Bork's world travels and discover the source of his invulnerability. The Flash discovers that he's had a statue carved of him by a mysterious backwater tribe, said to have supernatural abilities. Determining that this statue is the source of Bork's power, the Flash tries to destroy it, only to realize that the statue is as invulnerable as Bork is. As Batman is called out to fight Bork for control of Gotham, the Flash manages to take the statue out into space, abandoning it in the Sun, where it is destroyed just in time for Batman to knock Bork out, dethroning him from the underworld position he held.
