An injured Aquaman manages to teleport to the League satellite where a call goes out for the other members, summoning them to hear his tale of how he witnessed the birth of a new island with a temple upon it and, on the temple, a giant statue of a creature with five faces that came alive and attacked him. As the League resolve to tackle it, a call comes from NATO concerning a war that has broken out between NATO and the Warsaw Pact but the soldiers use both primitive and futuristic weapons. The League separate to deal with the two crises and find that they are interlinked; with the aid of the Phantom Stranger they discover a way to defeat the Fiend and return it and its island to the ocean. The story ends with The Atom asking advice on whether to tell his fiance Jean Loring about his double life.
